Why Do People Snore? Must know to help cure it better

Numerous studies and experiments have concluded that approximately 20% of people in the United States snore. Many people largely ignored this issue until recently, when the obesity epidemic caused it to get more attention in the news. But why do people snore? There are many reasons for this condition. Some are obvious and others are not. However, you can reverse many of the causes of snoring to allow yourself to get a better night’s sleep.

What causes snoring?

Although some consider snoring inconsequential, people ought to treat this condition with caution and seriousness. An air blockage in the back of the throat causes snoring, and it results from too much tissue blocking the airway. This can also occur within the palate and uvula; when the vibrations of the tonsils hit each other, it makes the infamous snoring sound. In some instances, a person’s jaw can cause snoring, and most doctors choose to deal with this problem promptly by correcting the malformations in the jaw through surgical procedures.

Why do people snore when they are overweight?

Why Do People SnoreWhen a person is overweight, it ultimately affects their entire body; however, when an overweight person sleeps at night, they are at a greater risk of experiencing obstructive sleep apnea, which is a period of time when a person holds their breath or experiences shallow breathing while sleeping.

Overweight people are at a much greater risk of experiencing this condition because of the excess fat that surrounds their neck; however keep in mind that even healthy individuals can suffer from obstructive sleep apnea. Although obstructive sleep apnea is most common among those who are overweight, a number of other factors can contribute to the condition as well, such as certain medications, an unhealthy diet, or even smoking.

Why do people snore when they drink alcohol?

You may not be aware of this, but when you drink, your chances of snoring are much greater. Alcohol is a depressant, so when you drink, your muscles relax. If you drink too much, your snoring could be become very dangerous. The alcohol’s effects can cause added relaxation to the throat, thus causing the tissues to collapse, which will then result in loud snoring. In addition, alcohol can leave your nose feeling irritated and congested, and this can affect the amount of air you inhale into your airway. A good rule of thumb for getting rid of the snoring – or at least downgrading the noisiness – is not to drink any alcohol for at least four hours before you go to bed.

There are many other reasons for snoring, such as lying on your back or in an awkward position while you sleep. However, these reasons are rather benign when compared to such issues as being overweight or drinking too much. These two factors cause stress on your body when it needs to rest, and they can lead to serious health issues down the road. Great ways to decrease snoring significantly include exercising, eating a healthy diet, and cutting back on the alcohol.
