If you’re looking for an effective snoring treatment, here are some of the best options available

Snoring is a big problem for many people. Not only is it annoying to the people around you, it could actually lead to more serious health problems. If you suffer from excessive snoring, there are a number of snoring treatment options that range from home remedies to major surgery. Here are the most common ways that snoring is treated medically, along with some ideas for taking care of it yourself.

1. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

Snoring TreatmentThe most common snoring treatment for sleep apnea is CPAP. This is a machine that you wear as a kind of mask. It blows pressurized air into your air passages while you sleep. Snoring is often associated with sleep apnea, a disorder where you stop sleeping at certain times in the night. CPAP ensures that you’re breathing right while you sleep.

CPAP has a good success rate but there are some disadvantages. The main problem with this device is that you must sleep on your back. The mask is uncomfortable for many people and it can be rather noisy, which defeats the purpose of eliminating your snoring in the first place.

2. Snoring Mouth Guards And Similar Devices

Treatment for SnoringIf the root of your snoring problem is the position of your jaw, a device such as a snoring mouth guard can help. These are devices that you wear inside your mouth that look like an athlete’s mouth guard. They keep your mouth in a regular, natural position.

The only problem with these is that they have to be fitted perfectly in order to be effective. Like CPAP, they can be uncomfortable and many people find it difficult to sleep wearing one. Currently in the United States, a prescription is needed to get one, and this also makes it an inconvenient option.

3. Surgical Options

Laser Snoring TreatmentThere are a number of surgical snoring treatments available. The most common is Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), a procedure where they carve out your throat’s air passage to allow the air to pass through more easily. In recent years, a laser snoring treatment that’s similar to this procedure is available.

The main problem with UPPP is that it has a success rate of only 45-70%. It’s extremely disappointing to go through this surgery and its recovery period only to find that the snoring remains. It’s often also extremely painful, with a very uncomfortable 2-week recovery period where you’re not able to eat normally.

4. Home Treatments For Snoring

Snoring TreatmentBecause of the costs and disadvantages of these options, many people instead try a home remedy treatment for snoring. There are a number of things you can try yourself before you seek medical solutions. These include:

  • Propping up your head better
  • Doing throat exercises
  • Clearing your sinuses before sleep
  • Sleeping in your side or stomach
  • Losing weight
  • Changing your diet
  • Herbal teas and throat sprays

These treatments produce mixed results, but it’s a good idea to try them first. If you find a natural snoring treatment that works and is easy for you to do, you don’t need to seek medical treatment.
