2. Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This is the most common type of sleep apnea that affects a large number of people. Overweight males between the age group of 35 to 50 years are more prone to this type of sleep apnea. It happens when the muscles of soft palate, base of the tongue and the uvula, relax and sag which blocks the airway and makes it to collapse.

3. Mixed or Complex Sleep Apnea:

As the name suggests, it is a mixture of the above-mentioned forms of sleep apnea. People experience long periods of obstructive sleep apnea combined with brief episodes of central sleep apnea.

Losing weight if you are overweight can also improve the symptoms to a great extent. Sleeping on the side instead of sleeping on the back is another good way to relieve the symptoms.
  • CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) Machine: It is a commonly sought Sleep Apnea Machine for management of moderate to severe sleep apnea. The patient is required to wear mask over the nose while sleeping. The mask pressures the air into the throat. The pressure of the air can be adjusted according to the requirements of the patients. Use of CPAP machine may be accompanied with a number of side effects which may include:

  • Headaches
  • Discomfort associated with the usage
  • Soreness in the eyes
  • Irritation of the skin of the face

The patients who make use of CPAP machine are recommended to use a nasal spray to get rid of nasal dryness, comfortably adjust the settings of machine or mask, and using the machine at low pressure setting in the starting phase. Once patients begin with CPAP treatment, they might face little difficulty in getting acquainted to wearing mask but eventually with time, they develop habit and reap benefits with regular usage.

  • Using Mouthpieces: There are many types of oral appliances which are called mouthpieces that can be used for treatment of sleep apnea.
